CEVA-Bluetooth IP for Low-Power, Cost-Sensitive IoT, Mobile, Automotive, Industrial and Environmental Applications
Bluetooth is a widely-used wireless technology standard for creating personal area networks (PANs). Bluetooth was originally conceived to securely carry speech and data over short distances of typically a few meters. Propelled by its popularity in hands-free headsets and automotive hands-free kits, Bluetooth is approaching virtual universal availability in wireless handsets and smartphones, and other mobile consumer electronic products including tablet computers, wearable devices, portable media players, portable game consoles, and automotive applications.
As a leading provider of embedded Bluetooth IP since the year 2000, CEVA has a strong track record in licensing and supporting this specialist technology. Designed for portability, CEVA-Bluetooth IP is particularly suitable for integration into ‘combo’ peripheral chips (co-existing with WiFi / FM / DAB / DTV / GPS / NFC / etc.), integrated cellular application-processors/baseband SoCs, and wireless audio devices such as portable speakers, dockings and soundbars.
With support for the highly popular BT 2.1+EDR/3.0 standards, and the newer BT 4.0/4.1 low energy standards (for both dual mode and single mode operation), CEVA-Bluetooth solutions have been designed with flexible open interfaces to give chip architects freedom in choosing the other elements of the system, including the radio, embedded processor, host software stack, and operating system. Further, for BT4.0/4.1 Single Mode applications, CEVA also provides a compact Host software stack plus Profiles suite.
In addition to being suitable for general deployment on common 32bit embedded RISC processors, the CEVA-Bluetooth controller software is also fully optimized for theCEVA-TeakLite-4?DSP family, with the CEVA-Bluetooth baseband hardware seamlessly connecting to the CEVA-TeakLite-4 interface. This close coupling of CEVA technologies enables an efficient single core solution for wireless connectivity plus audio/voice/sensing, as required for highly-integrated wearable and mobile devices, which demand ultra-low-power, while supporting always-connected and always-on user interfaces such as voice trigger/command.
CEVA-Bluetooth Target Applications
Any device that requires Bluetooth capability, including wireless headsets and smartphones, tablet computers, wireless speakers, portable media players, portable game consoles, and automotive applications.?In addition, with Bluetooth 4.0/4.1 Low Energy, a wide range of new Bluetooth-enabled sensor applications are addressed, such as wearable sensor products for medical and sports, toys, environment sensors, active shutter 3DTV glasses and other machine–to-machine communications.

Architectural Highlights
CEVA-Bluetooth is available in a number of configurations to match customer’s needs.
CEVA-Bluetooth 2.1+EDR IP?provides a solution for applications requiring the highly popular classic Basic Rate and Enhanced Data Rate Bluetooth.
CEVA-Bluetooth 3.0 IP?provides enhanced power control, and an extended HCI definition for encryption key size management. It also includes a highly flexible Packet Traffic Arbitration (PTA) interface to facilitate co-existence with on-die integrated 802.11 WLAN IP. For applications requiring the Alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) function as described in Bluetooth3.0+HS, customers can integrate CEVA-Bluetooth with their own or 3rd party AMP IP.
CEVA-Bluetooth 4.0/4.1 SM IP?provides an optimized solution (including Host software and typical Profiles) for applications requiring Single Mode Bluetooth Low Energy, such as button-battery powered sensor products e.g. wearable devices for medical /sports, toys, environment sensors and other machine–machine communications.
CEVA-Bluetooth 4.0/4.1 DM IP?provides an integrated solution for next generation ‘Combo’ SoCs which look to provide Dual Mode (i.e. both classic and LE) Bluetooth, as is typical going forward in cellular phones, tablets and other mobile communication platforms.
